ISSUES & POSITIONS

Bringing democracy to Zimbabwe

The people of Zimbabwe overwhelmingly voted in favor of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) over Robert Mugabe and the ZANU-PF in the 2008 elections. Mugabe and the ZANU-PF refused to recognize the election results. The Global Alliance for Zimbabwe stands firmly with the people of Zimbabwe in their right to democratically elect a government of their choosing without fear, intimidation, or violence.

Establishing a secure Zimbabwe

Currently, Zimbabwe’s military, police force, and government intelligence act as an adjunct of the ZANU-PF — continuing to commit atrocities against the people of Zimbabwe in an effort to maintain control of the country. The Global Alliance for Zimbabwe supports the people of Zimbabwe in their right to a military, police force, and government intelligence that enforces the rule of law.

End humanitarian abuses in Zimbabwe

Robert Mugabe and the ZANU-PF continue to govern Zimbabwe through killing, intimidation, beatings, unlawful imprisonment, and torture. In addition to an immediate end to the humanitarian crisis, the Global Alliance for Zimbabwe advocates on behalf of the people of Zimbabwe for an established rule of law,
constitutional reforms, transparency, accountability, along with truth and reconciliation initiatives.

Protecting Zimbabwe’s natural resources

Cronyism and corruption are stripping Zimbabwe of its precious natural resources. The illicit trading of diamonds and other mining activity has not only robbed the people of Zimbabwe of prosperity, but has resulted in further human rights abuses. The Global Alliance of Zimbabwe believes the people of Zimbabwe have the right to manage their country’s natural resources to the benefit of the Zimbabwean economy and citizens.
